Hi there, my name’s Meghan…

…and I’ve dreamt of an herb-centric apothecary, intentionally crafted in Minnesota for quite some time.

I’ve always been interested in the natural world and the medicines that Mother Earth shares with us at every turn. For a lot of people, that’s a totally foreign concept or something that’s too “woowoo” to hold water. But it’s the truth I live by and want to share with others.

I was definitely the kid growing up making mud pies and other concoctions. As a teen, I really enjoyed making homemade hair masks out of eggs and face masks out of avocado. My interest in “food as healer” grew as I became a yoga instructor and worked at a local natural spa as a receptionist.

I started making teas for personal use from the herbs in the bulk section at my local co-op, and finally did a summer internship at an herb farm where I learned so much about growing, caring for, and using our herbal allies! I’ve continued my education through conferences, talks, self-study, and good ‘ole fashioned getting to know the plants through trial and error.

That’s how Black Tallow Apothecary was born!

Herbs and the planet are at the forefront of everything I do here. From growing what herbs I can to ensure proper care, to compostable packaging to help limit waste, to offering local pickup to minimize our footprint. The plants and the earth are important in my practice not just as an herbalist, but in my daily life as well.

The long-term goal for Black Tallow Apothecary is to have every herb sold here grown, harvested, and crafted by my hand. I know that it will be a process, especially as I continue to explore new products, and appreciate your company on this journey.
